englischIn this book, the author describes how racism operates as a system of power, based on her experiences in the theatre (Mittelreich, 2017 and Die Kränkungen der Menschheit, 2019) and a conversation with the director Anta Helena Recke. She sees that theatrical performances have the potential to reverse racist thought patterns internalised by spectators. Koutouan follows a critical, phenomenological approach and combines performance analysis, an interview and German colonial history with her own biography. The author makes her position as a Black cisgender woman transparent and reflects on her personal experiences of racism with regard to her academic writing as a methodological approach.
