englischSince the advent of audiovisual media, science films have become an integral part of scientific communication. In the perception, evaluation and safeguarding of new scientific knowledge, metaphors take on a decisive role. In science films, they find a new expressiveness in language, images and sounds – they become multimodal. Metaphors change cinematic storytelling and allow new dimensions in knowledge transfer to emerge. This book explores three central questions: why metaphors play a special role in science films, what mechanism underlies metaphors, and what effect is constructed by them.
