englischOriginating from the fields of anthropology and art history, research on the physically tangible object is gaining more importance as a direct carrier of meaning of material culture. Textile studies belongs to this interdisciplinary field. It is the basis of this examination with the aim of working out the impact of paraments in Christian liturgy. In how far do the textile objects complement, support or suggest the cultic effect of liturgy? In the context of cultural anthropology, which impact and meaning emanate from a textile object, and is it to be understood as an autonomous object of material culture? A cope of the libri regalia by textile artist Edith Ostendorf serves as a generic textile.

Alicia Jablonski studied Art and Communication of Art as well as Fashion-Textile-Design Studies at the University of Paderborn, Germany. This work is her thesis for which she received a grant of the city of Paderborn.
