englischIn the history of religion, one finds intermediate beings who, insofar as they bridge the boundary between transcendence and immanence, are called border crossers. One of these is the angel, whose understanding is based on monotheistic thinking.

In the work of Klaus Mann, we can see how this motif is used in literature today. As a modern author, he deals relatively freely with the traditional figure without abandoning the traditional basis. He varies or expands it. Klaus Mann is also an example of the angel again taking the place of God. As God distances himself more and more from man (or vice versa), the angel becomes a placeholder for God and keeps the door to transcendence open.
