englischThe book deals with questions that complement the philosophical aspects of Parmenides, mainly with an analysis of the proem in light of the Greek literary and religious tradition to determine which are traditional and which are novel. Further, a proposed analysis of the proem indicating how the questions dealt with in it could be translated into terms of modern linguistics ("to be" as a hyperonym, the semantics of negation, or the semantics of "being" versus the semantics of verb tenses). And finally, the Parmenidean use of adjectives with ά- privative, which seem contradictory with the Parmenian idea that what is not cannot be known. Customary to the Eleatic Lessons, prestigious authors make valuable contributions to the issues addressed.
