englischǦamāladdīn Ibn Nubātah al-Miṣrī (686-768/1287-1366) left a lasting mark on Mamluk literature and poetry and was considered by both his contemporaries and subsequent generations to be an unsurpassed author worthy of emulation. During his time as secretary in the Damascus chancellery, he wrote numerous appointment documents and official letters in elaborate rhyming prose, which demonstrate his mastery in this field as well. The first independent scholarly-critical edition of these official texts, which is provided with a critical apparatus and commentaries, not only provides deep insights into Ibn Nubātah's personal style, but also contributes to a deeper knowledge of Mamluk official writing in its literary form.
