There is no lack of attempts in contemporary research to update Schelling's philosophy in various ways. However, the aim of this volume is to show how Schelling himself developed the concepts of ‘ground’ and ‘freedom’ from 1804 onwards and connected them so indissolubly that new potentiality can be attributed to metaphysical thinking. To this end, the interpretations by the Italian philosopher Luigi Pareyson (1918–1991) prove to be decisive in understanding this fundamental dimension of Schelling's thought. In addition, readers are offered a German translation of an essay by Pareyson.
Darf die Freiheit als ontologischer Begriff betrachtet werden, nämlich als jener metaphysischer „Grund“, die eine lange Tradition hinter sich hat? Es fehlt in der Forschung nicht an Versuchen, die Philosophie Schellings auf verschiedene Weise zu aktualisieren. Ziel des Bandes besteht aber darin: Zu zeigen, wie Schelling selbst die Begriffe „Grund“ und „Freiheit“ ab 1804 entwickelt und unauflösbar verbunden hat, so dass dem metaphysischen Denken neue Potentialitäten erschlossen werden. Dazu erweist die Interpretation des italienischen Philosophen Luigi Pareyson (1918-1991) sich als entscheidend, um diese fundamentale Dimension des Denkens Schellings zu verstehen. Außerdem wird den Leser:innen ein Aufsatz Pareysons in deutscher Übersetzung angeboten.
