englisch"Delinquency as fate“ critically analyzes the General Theory of Crime by Gottfredson and Hirschi, the central theory of modern criminology. Based on this analysis and by transferring two basic terms of Arnold Gehlens’ anthropology to the self-control concept, the author develops the model of plastic self-control. This model does not establish a causal relation between the stability of a person’s living situation and his or her ability of self-control. It is also completely compatible with the findings of life course research without dismissing the core hypotheses of the General Theory of Crime which have been empirically proven many times.
