englischMarket economy is more than an economic order. The book explores this ‚more’ of our economic system with regard to labor.

The economics of religion are the framework for the research. This innovative field describes the various crossings of religion and economy. The new discipline is systemized in the first part of the book. A methodological and theoretical structure for exploring the influence of religion on economic behavior is developed.

The structure then is applied to labor in market economy. Martin Luther’s mental model regarding his interpretation of labor is portrayed by analyzing texts of the reformer. A comparison with interpretations of work in today’s market economy follows.

The comparison with Luther’s interpretation illustrates market economy’s connection to religion. Labor in market economy is more than it appears at first sight.

Dr. Holger Blisse, cooperativ 3/15
