englischDemocracy thrives on innovation. While the German system at the federal level is strongly tied to representation, our French neighbours are sometimes more experimental when it comes to testing modern democratic forms. One example is the public participation procedure in the run-up to the revision of the bioethics law in 2019, in which citizens and experts were able to submit their ideas on the revision of the bioethics law on topics such as artificial insemination or assisted suicide at regional meetings and via the internet. The present work analyses this innovative procedure and puts it to the test using various criteria for evaluating participatory procedures.
