englischDevelopment theory deals with social change and global inequality – typically from an implicit Western perspective. Yet also here we find original voices, and the volume at hand serves as a forum for some of them. It assembles heterogeneous perspectives: from political economy and postcolonial studies, game theory and sociology of knowledge, modernization theory and world systems theory. Above all, it critically examines and reflects development theory itself.
Aram Ziai is spokesperson of the section on development theory and policy of the German Association of Political Scientists and researches the field from the perspective of discourse analysis and postcolonial studies.

Entwicklungstheorie befasst sich mit sozialem Wandel und globaler Ungleichheit – meist aus der impliziten Perspektive des Westens. Dennoch finden sich hier bisweilen innovative Stimmen, denen der vorliegende Band ein Forum bietet. Dabei versammelt er unterschiedlichste Perspektiven: politökonomische und postkoloniale, spieltheoretische und wissenssoziologische, Modernisierungstheorie und Weltsystemtheorie. Vor allem aber unterzieht er die Entwicklungstheorie selbst einer kritischen Reflexion.
Aram Ziai ist Sprecher der Sektion Entwicklungstheorie und Entwicklungspolitik der Deutschen Vereinigung für Politische Wissenschaft und erforscht das Fachgebiet aus einer diskursanalytischen und postkolonialen Perspektive.
