englischCases like the Rostock Warnow tunnel in Germany have emphasised the requirement of assessing transport infrastructure projects not individually, but in the context of all other relevant infrastructure measures. The occurrence of interdependencies poses a challenge for project appraisal, for prioritising projects and for deriving an optimal infrastructure configuration. In this work, a method is developed to identify, measure and to explain the occurrence of interdependencies between the components of an investment package. Interdependence is examined on three different levels. At the third stage of the analyses, the projects are grouped under application of multivariate methods. The developed approach is applied to the ambitious set of priority infrastructure projects of the European Union adopted in 2004. The author has been engaged in European transport infrastructure planning and assessment of infrastructure measures for several years.

The work was awarded the European Friedrich List Prize 2007 and is addressed to transport planers and transport economists, as well as to transport infrastructure decision-makers.
