englischWhen management capacity is needed in relation to a particular project or only temporarily, e.g. to fill sudden vacancies, companies increasingly engage external interim managers who offer management support for a limited period of time. From a legal perspective, interim management raises a variety of interesting issues that call for a scientific examination.

This thesis offers a comprehensive legal examination of interim management as a new form of employment. The author analyses the different contractual models and examines ways of integrating interim managers into the company, e.g. as directors. At the core of the thesis are the interim managers’ qualifications in terms of labour and social law. While the parties wish to contract on a freelance basis, courts and public authorities tend to disagree with this qualification. Hence, the method of qualifying employment relationships is considered. The author examines the question of whether one should attach greater importance to the parties’ evaluation.
