englischSocial change and technological progress have led to a decline in the use of physical media in the distribution of content. Streaming platforms, where content can be retrieved directly from the provider’s server without the need for persistent storage on a user’s device, are about to replace conventional distribution on physical media or as downloadable digital files. This thesis examines the role of copyright law in new business models for the distribution of digital content, based on a number of practical legal issues that arise between platform operators and users of on-demand streaming platforms. Furthermore, it investigates whether the current legal framework is flexible enough to take sufficient account of the specificities of these business models.
