englischIn the Berlin of the 1920s, public prosecutor Dr. Walther Jacoby, son of a theologian and privy councillor, hopes to augment his income. He provides letters of recommendation for the business of Paul Bergmann, an acquaintance. However, Bergmann´s company turns out to be a Ponzi scheme.

The criminal lawyer of today will feel slightly bemused by the authoritarian and class-conscious attitude many of his colleagues displayed. Other aspects of the case seem strangely familiar: the fear that the reputation of the judicial system might be tarnished; complaints about low wages and a lack of esteem; or the attempts of outsiders to exploit scandals for their personal gain.
