englischThe utilization of Nerve pressure techniques inflicts severe pain on the person concerned. A profound legal evaluation of pain as a measure of the police has not been done so far, although such techniques are widely used in Germany. This thesis deals with the practical problems and the divergent views of the federal states on nerve pressure techniques, which were gathered in a series of interviews and are presented in the thesis. It examines “Unmittelbaren Zwang” as the presumed legal basis, questions its compliance with fundamental and human rights, especially the prohibition of torture, and discusses the proportionality of such techniques.
