englischFor a long time, research on the ancient fable, a genre that has significantly influenced the development of modern literature, was limited almost exclusively to questions of textual tradition or the history of motifs. In recent years, however, a new research approach has increasingly gained attention in Classical Philology, which focuses on fables as literary works of art with poetic and cultural value. This has resulted in a new interest in ancient fables as expressions of learned virtuosity and as treasures of cultural information. In the course of this, new methods of approaching these unique texts also emerged. This volume presents recent examples of this methodological development process and reflects current trends in ancient fable studies with contributions on general aspects and specific case studies.
