Based on a new and definitive text of Shakespeare this concordance is not only able to fulfil the general requirements of thoroughness and accuracy but also to present supplementary information and special features, not normally available in concordances, which reflect the findings of the most advanced scholarship and attempt to meet the needs of those interested in Shakespeare and in the English language. The nine volumes of Professor Spevack’s Complete and Systematic Concordance to the Works of Shakespeare with their vast amount of material are a milestone in the study and research of English language and literature. The editor takes as the basis for the concordance in Volumes I–VI the text of the “Riverside Shakespeare” of G. Blakemore Evans.
