The problem of fraud in the European Union attracts constant media attention and public concern. This work focuses on the fight against fraud conducted at Community level by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF). Emphasis is placed on OLAF"s role in strengthening the effectiveness of prevention and detection of irregularities and fraud, its co-operation with national law enforcement authorities, follow-up of investigations and sanctions. This book also describes the legal position of individuals subject to OLAF investigations in the light of the existing jurisdiction of the EC courts. It also examines immunities and privileges of the Community officials during internal investigations, the protection of whistleblowers and witnesses. Finally, the book determines the scope for supervision and judicial review of OLAF decisions.
