Description
In this first of two volumes devoted to the handwritten texts relating to Aeschylus' Prometheus Vinctus, nine important groups of Prometheus manuscripts are examined, as is the Robortello edition (1552) because of its dependence on Voss. gr. Q4A (O). The author has attempted to establish possible relationships between the various groups and has made corrections, improvements and additions to previous scholarly research. The Mediceus (Laur. 32.9) undoubtedly provides the main witness account of Aeschylus' tragedy but belongs to a branch of tradition that often differs significantly from that of the majority of such accounts.
