Description
In this study, Judith Bergkemper examines how Afghan women in the diaspora in Germany understand and shape peace. The analytical framework follows the 'Three Approaches to Peace' framework by Jarstad et al., supplemented by feminist perspectives. Drawing on qualitative interviews, the study shows that peace goes beyond the absence of violence and encompasses education, gender justice, social participation and self-empowerment. Diaspora associations become central spaces for transnational peacebuilding, while structural obstacles such as racism and political exclusion become visible. The work contributes to peace research by placing marginalised women actors at its centre.
