Description
The museum catalogue contains colour illustrations and detailed descriptions of the exhibits of traditional and contemporary African art, which were brought together by the collector Günter Schellhammer during his time working in the Congo from 1964 to 1970. The book takes a humorous look at private and professional life in Kinshasa during a politically turbulent period in the company of two fellow inhabitants, the chimpanzee and the leopard. In particular, the adventurous experiences during visits to the tribal areas and the experiences of collecting genuine pieces of traditional art are described. Contemporary art, in turn, was acquired by graduates of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa.
