Description
The Islamist Hassan Abdullah al-Turabi (1932–2016) was the brains behind the Islamist regime of Omar al-Baschir in Sudan. Is it possible to enter into dialogue with an Islamist? This study on al-Turabi by Alexius Chehadeh lays the groundwork for such a dialogue. It is the first work in German to examine Abdullah al-Turabi’s Islamist theory of the state, its society and the violence within it. In it he presents independent standpoints on issues relating to the rights of minorities and women which clearly deviate from the traditional teachings of Islamic academics. Moreover, in his research he was always open to entering into dialogue with adherents of other religions.
