Taking three well-known biographies and Camus’s own diaries into account, philosopher and literary scholar Bernd Oei provides an expert and accessible personal survey of the life and philosophical and literary work of Albert Camus. Analogies to well-known contemporary thinkers, but also mavericks like Vian and Char, are being examined, as are Camus’s attitude in the Algerian War and his private crises.
In addition to an overview over central terms in Camus’s work such as the absurd, freedom or love, another focus of this interdisciplinary volume lies on the summary of Camus’s essays and their ratiocination on his literary work.
