Description
The idea of guardian angels is part of everyday life for many people. It is considered in good wishes and visually expressed on postcards. Zohreh Abedi traces the religio-historical path of the significance of angels from Zoroaster through biblical ideas to the Quran. She focuses on the deliberations of Persian philosopher Suhrawardi. The presentation of his teaching is framed by remarks about the angelology of preceding Islamic philosophers Ibn Sina (Avicenna) and Al-Ghazāli (Algazelus) and Christian theologian and philosopher Thomas Aquinas, who followed him. The emphasis on Suhrawardi also allows a deeper insight into Persian philosophy.
