Nietzsche's Also sprach Zarathustra (1883-85) had sunk to the level of a literary curiosity in the wake of the hot-selling Nietzsche biography by Sue Prideaux. In the meantime, following the publication of the Heidelberg Zarathustra commentary, a new earnest has made itself felt in Nietzsche research, as this commentary shows. It is, uniquely, a commentary of the "New School" type in Nietzsche research that favours a biographical approach. It refutes the image of Nietzsche as a war philosopher projected by his sister in the years 1913/14. Instead, Nietzsche is shown in the figure of the "last man" to be far ahead of his time as a psychologist of the problematic life of the bourgeoisie.
