Description
As ›Europe‹ grows, understanding of the legal systems that operate within ›Europe‹ becomes increasingly important. This book is one of a series, which in a standard arrangement, outline the domestic law of the members of the European Union, their public, private and criminal law as well as the history and organisation of their legal system. The reader can thus acquire a general understanding of the principal players on the European legal scene.
British law has several elements. The English and Scottish law and legal systems are separate and distinctive. There is also law common to England and Scotland, developed since the creation of Great Britain in 1707. The British constitution which makes such arrangement work, is unique in Europe. It is unwritten and yet has proved to be a flexible method of organising a State for almost three centuries.
The author, Professor of Public Law in the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, has taught law for thirty years and is the author of a number of other law books.
