Antike Spiegelungen im deutschen Welttheater

Our modern theatre developed in ancient Athens: a literary play that was rehearsed and then presented in a public performance. The 300th anniversary of Johann Joachim Winckelmann’s birth is an appropriate moment to consider the question: what can still be seen and heard of this legacy in German world theatre? After all, the inner experience of our present is added, bringing into play the claims of the individual persona and its presentation in all its facets on the everyday stage. A group of academics has tried to create from these polarities a gift of friendship, intended not only for the anniversary of a Salzburg Professor of the ‘artes liberales philosophiae’ but also for everyone interested in the reception of classical culture.
