Description
The book provides a summary of a music-analytical approach based on C. G. Jung’s theory of archetypes. Using an illustrated example from Schubert’s œuvre, the methodology for interpreting unconscious archetypal structures in music is presented in a well-founded manner, whilst discussing the significance of these structures for the process of transformation of musical language and establishing a connection to the composer’s biography and to cultural-historical events without pathologizing them. Furthermore, it provides impetus for future research, particularly in 'Jungian' music-arts-based research and in receptive music therapy, which stem from this nuanced understanding of music.
