How do publicly funded theatres change—and is institutional change even possible? Rike-Kristin Baca Duque historically classifies the power critical demands for reform in relation to gender equality and diversity and analyses gender-related power shifts in theatre in an intersectional manner. She examines current reform processes from the perspective of processual sociology and shows where institutional forces of inertia meet activism. With an interdisciplinary approach, the work combines organisational sociology, figuration sociology and cultural studies—and opens up new perspectives on theatre as an institution between tradition and change.
