The examination of the past „made in Germany“ has become an export hit. Because the German handling of its Nazi- and GDR-past is internationally acknowledged as the most successful. Therefore, states who need to come to terms with their past are looking for an exchange of experiences with German institutions. Currently especially the states of the Arab Spring are looking to Germany. In the frame of the German-Tunisian Project Contre l’oubli the Journalist Sven Felix Kellerhoff has summarized the most important institutions and methods that Germany has used to come to terms with its two dictatorships. He describes in an exemplary manner how securing evidence, changing the elite, punishment, victim compensation, and education have taken place. In conclusion of each of the five chapters, brief examples are provided to show how other countries have addressed their past dictatorships. Interested readers from Germany and abroad may be able to get an overview of the German handling with its past.
