Betriebsräte im Profifußball – Mit- oder Gegenspieler?

Works councils are gaining significance in times of increasing commercialisation in professional football. Contrary to widespread beliefs, the Works Constitution Act applies without restrictions to sport clubs. This fact is often disregarded with reference to the particularities of sports.

This study resolves the tension between the needs of professional sport on the one hand and the requirements of works constitution law on the other, based on the standards of state law. It develops solution-oriented approaches for dealing with works councils in professional football in a manner that complies with the law. The results of the study are therefore equally significant for practitioners and scholars.
