Bild und Schmerz

This anthology examines the topic of pain and the power of images from the perspective of various disciplines, including pain medicine, literary studies, psychology, philosophy, and theology. The contributions address topics such as:
• body image of people suffering from pain
• authority of technically generated images of pain
• pictorial representations of the experience of pain by those affected
• significance of visuality for dealing with pain
• influence of social metaphors of pain
The aim is to gain a better understanding of how such images work and what potential and limitations in dealing with pain they can offer.
