Bürgermeister*innen und die Energiewende auf der kommunalen Ebene

Although the energy transition has been ongoing for many years, its local political dimension has so far received little scholarly attention. This book focuses on the role of mayors in the expansion of renewable energy in rural areas, drawing on four case studies from different German federal states. It describes both the actions taken by mayors and the limiting and enabling factors that define their scope for action. Particular attention is paid to the potential for local value creation and the involvement of the local population. Finally, the book formulates policy recommendations for office holders, municipalities, states, and the federal government to help them make better use of this potential.
