Description
In today’s world, students, academics and lawyers have to deal with questions of European law in many areas of private law. Lately, the laws of the European Community and the case law of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) are encroaching more and more into the area of private law.
One in a series of Casebooks dealing with the laws of the European Union, the Casebook on European Private Law analyses some of the most important judgements ever to emanate from the ECJ. It includes the most fundamental cases which have had a profound effect on the private laws of Germany, England and Wales, France, Italy and (where appropriate) Austria.
The aim of this book is therefore to be an introductory guide to the laws and fundamental principles of the decisions of the ECJ and their effect on the national legal orders of various Member States. It is of interest to all practitioners, academics and law students. In addition, it opens legal scholarship up to a new, Europeanised look at private law in the EC.
The editors and authors are legal scholars and practitioners from different Member States; they have worked together on this project within a European Commission-financed research network.
