Description
Christian Thomasius (1655-1728) is judged by most as the founder of German Enlightenment. Originally a legal scholar, he was also the first great philosphier of the Enlightenment and the author of the first German-language books on logic and ethics and edited the first German monthly jornal. As founder of, and professor at the Universtiy of Halle, he campaigned successfully aainst torture and witch-hunting and introduced the first systematical distinction between law and ethics. His writings include over 300 titles; a complete edition is neither available nor planned. The Selected Works presented here mainly contain his philosophical writings including those dealing with philosophy of law.
