Christian Wolff: Gesammelte Werke

Wolff’s introduction to the useful learning and application of mathematics has more ambitious aims than modern special didactics, for he wants to improve the learner’s understanding through his learning method. This improved understanding can also be applied outside mathematics, for example for the reform and advance of philosophy, as Wolff himself suggests. He described the didactic way to perfect the understanding in this treatise and applied it in his mathematical textbooks. The special didactic steps he recommended are still valid nowadays and broaden our view of mathematics. This extended view clarifies the close connection between mathematics and philosophy. A closeness that is rather forgotten in the present time.
