Constructivism and Rationalism in EU External Relations
The Case of the European Neighbourhood Policy
Nomos, 1. Edition 2010, 200 Pages
Description
EU foreign policy analysis is still an undertheorised field. This book combines the two dominant theoretical approaches - constructivism and rationalism - to look at the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) in an unconventional way. In depth discourse analysis and interviews carried out in the Eastern neighbourhood (Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova), in three key member states (Germany, France and Poland), and inside the EU institutions (the Council, the Commission, the Parliament) offer the reader a fresh look at the origins and subsequent development of the ENP. The results of the analysis will no doubt be beneficial for both practitioners and scholars of European Studies and International Relations interested in a comprehensive and theoretically innovative approach to the policy.
