Description
A crowd crush is a situation in which people are harmed by the pressure exerted on them by bystanders in a crowd. A well-known example is the 2010 Love Parade in Duisburg with 21 fatalities. Surprisingly, the topic has received virtually no attention in civil law literature to date. This work brings together interdisciplinary findings from the fields of traffic physics, sociology and behavioural psychology on the subject of crowd crushes. From this, the professional obligations of the organiser and the operator of places of assembly are derived, taking into account administrative law, and the possible claims for damages are presented, taking into account the procedural problems.
