Description
An outstanding piece of the handwriting collection of the Frankfurt City & University Library is the ‚Prayerbook of Claus Humbracht‘. Despite its sixteen magnificent illuminations and miniatures it has received little attention from academic research so far.
This art-historical study examines the codex extensively in a codicological, iconographical and theological manner for the very first time. It focuses on comparing the miniatures with corresponding artworks from the German-speaking and Flemish region, whereby the date of origin and place of manufacture of the manuscript can be determined for the first time. This monography provides important insights regarding the history of the manuscript and its patron.
