The religious studies perspective offers an unbiased and comprehensible approach to understanding Mark's Gospel. It shows how Mark presents the emergence of Christianity on the basis of Judaism through his artfully crafted narrative in a pointed and purposeful way and allows us to participate in the creative process: In his dynamic imagery, Mark expresses the contents of a personal and faith religion based on Jesus as the Son of God. He contours this in an open but alternative way to the Jewish orientations of the time. Comparing religions, analogies from the development processes of Islam and Buddhism are discussed based on core points of the Gospel.
