Details
Nering was the most influential architect in Brandenburg-Prussia around 1700. For the first time, the author contextualises Nering's work and subjects it to critical analysis. Nering transferred the style and quality primarily of Italian architecture to the Mark, which, as a strict, sober architectural language, stands out from the freer Italian or South German handling but claims a firm place as the Berlin School. Nering's architecture anticipated the elevation of the elector to a higher rank, which was not realised politically until the coronation in 1701. He raised courtly and urban architecture to the level of the most renowned courts of the empire and prepared the splendid architecture of Schlüter, Eosander and de Bodt.
