Studienkurs Politikwissenschaft
Description
Israel is facing a double crisis. Internally, democratic institutions are threatened by the rise of illiberal populism; externally, the attacks by Hamas on 7th October 2023 have triggered a sense of existential insecurity. This textbook analyses Israel's political system and the historical genesis of the processes in the current crisis. It focuses on the tension between authoritarian and democratic developments as well as the institutional transformation of Israeli democracy and its actors—for example with regard to the relationship between religion and the state, the definition of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, the relationship between majority and minority, the role of the security services and the military, as well as the ongoing occupation.
