Description
Although South Africa is one of the most politically important African states, there has been no comprehensive textbook for students of the political and social sciences until now. This introduction is therefore the first to comprehensively present the history of the country, the system changes since 1990 and the country’s key institutions. In addition, it analyses intermediary actors such as political parties and civil society, economic dynasties and South African foreign policy in the region and increasingly in international politics. Frequent field trips to sub-Saharan Africa and to South Africa in 2024 enabled the author to review current documents and literature for the book for the first time and to discuss South Africa’s prospects with social scientists and politicians.
