Description
Is Hungary an autocracy? This is the central question of this textbook, which takes an internal look at the Hungarian political system and analyses factors that are relevant to the system. Historical legacies such as the Habsburg monarchy, so-called goulash communism, system change and democratisation are significant for current developments, which are highly controversial and even more criticised in the German-speaking public. One thing is certain: Viktor Orbán's concept of the state has led to a more or less fundamental restructuring of the system since 2010. In ten chapters, the book examines how the concept of national cooperation (NER) influences political institutions, legislation and foreign policy, as well as the articulation of the interests of minorities and Hungarian civil society. It concludes with scenarios for the country's future development.
