Das Recht auf Staatsangehörigkeit im Völkerrecht

Refugee movements have significantly expanded the phenomenon of statelessness. This has far-reaching effects on the legal status of individuals, ranging from entry and residence status to participation in political processes. At the same time, a right to nationality touches on the core of sovereign self-determination of states with regard to the definition of their own state association. Against this background, the work develops the extent to which a right to acquire a nationality under international law can be justified under treaty or even customary law and examines in detail the case law of international human rights bodies, in particular regional human rights courts.
