The US political system has long been a role model for Western democracies. Its constitution captured the spirit of the Enlightenment and stipulated – at least on paper – general human rights and freedom of action for individuals for the first time in history. The construction of the separated institutions that share power ensures stability, but due to the division in society it also creates problems – especially in the form of blockades in politics. The textbook explains the basics of the political system and the individual powers – embedded in the history of the nation's origins. There are also chapters on elections, populism and the media system, accompanied by examples and digressions.
