A social pedagogy that neither merely affirms existing conditions nor puts its own ability to act to the test through directionless criticism requires a conception of the subject. From a democratic perspective, it becomes clear that such a conception is not just a question of perspective but must also have a cautiously universalistic content. As this book aims to show, questions of democracy and normativity are linked with regard to subjectivity and pedagogical communication. The author sets himself the task of coming closer to the subject in Helmut Richter's theory of the pedagogy of the social and thus making a contribution to the discipline of social pedagogy as democracy education.
