Can the participation of lot-based citizens' assemblies also improve political decisions from a legal perspective? After taking stock of lot-based participation instruments, the democratic legitimacy of the participation of citizens' assemblies within the legislative decision-making process is classified and evaluated from a constitutional perspective, primarily by analyzing the cases of the Federal Constitutional Court. Subsequently, the constitutional concerns and requirements for a meaningful establishment and organization of citizens' assemblies by parliaments are outlined. Finally, guidelines for legal standardization are proposed.
