Description
Is it permissible to kill one person in order to save five? These and similar questions are at the centre of the debate between proponents of consequentialist and deontological ethics. Deontological ethics is a theory according to which the moral rightness or wrongness of an action does not depend on its consequences, but on whether the actor fulfils or violates certain duties with his action. This work is the first comprehensive presentation of the approaches and justification strategies of deontological ethics in the German-speaking world. On this basis, the author develops a proposal as to how elements of consequentialism can be integrated into a generally deontological ethics.
